Dimitris Terpizis is focusing on his hometown. According to the jury, his jazz music tells a very personal story about his journey from Greece to Maastricht to make his dreams come true. "You've worked very hard on that journey," says the jury chairwoman. "Respect. Your drumming skills are undoubtedly of a very high standard. I did wonder at first whether you'd stand out enough among all the other quartets. Time will tell, but as a jury, we have every confidence in you."
Dimitris explains that the music comes to him during his composition process. It's an organic process. The jury appreciates that. "Your compositions are powerful and adventurous, with plenty of room for improvisation. You arrange and work carefully with images. That speaks volumes about your awareness of a holistic view of your 'product.'" Dimitris also has no shortage of entrepreneurial spirit. The jury finds his album meticulously composed, arranged, recorded, and designed. And it's a smart move that saxophonist David Binney performs during the live release. "It works. You also have a good website, which showcases your inviting business model."
With his musical skills, organic composition, independence, strong drive, solid plan, and intelligence, he wowed the jury. Dimitris loves it and wants to use his €5,000 prize for a new album full of surprises.
